Friday Favorites: Happy Canada Day!

Tomorrow is Canada Day and Canada is turning 150!! On Canada Day, my family typically goes to a local park that hosts activities and outdoor concerts. At dinner time, we walk home for a little barbecue - often with family friends! And then we head back to the park for fireworks! Canada Day means summer to me and I am so excited to kick off summer with my favorite people! Since it's Canada Day, I am talking about my favorite things about being Canadian today!

1. I love that Canada has 4 very distinct seasons - I love different things about each season and I love getting to experience them every year! I especially love that we have access to different activities depending on the season. We can swim in lakes in the summer, hike in crisp woods in the fall, ski and skate during the winter and jump in the puddles in the spring!
2. Canada is home to some pretty fabulous treats! Nanaimo Bars, Beaver Tails, Coffee Crisp chocolate bars, maple syrup, Kinder Suprises, Butter Tarts, Bagels (more specifically to Montreal, but still Canadian!!) and I could go on and on!!

*you can find a recipe for my favorite butter tarts HERE

3. I love being educated in Canada! I know there are great schools all over the world, but I am very happy that I get to go to school in Canada! I am also glad that I am bilingual (again, more specific to Montreal) - I am so glad that I am able to speak English and French!

4. This year, Forbes rated Canada as the 7th happiest country in the world. Living amongst happy people makes me happy! How could you not be happy when you're surrounded by happy!? This year, a Canadian bookstore called Indigo is promoting a campaign called "the world needs more Canada." While I think it's awfully presumptuous to suggest that the rest of the world should be more like Canada, I do wish that the happiness that exists in Canada could be spread worldwide.
 5. I briefly mentioned Canada's winter sports above, but figure skating is especially close to my heart and I am so happy to have wonderful figure skaters that represent Canada at the Olympics! Pictured above are Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir. They are an ice dance pair who won gold in 2010 in Vancouver and silver in 2014 in Sochi! I am so excited to see them skate in PyeongChang in 2018!

  4. I love the changing of the seasons here in Indiana as well. I especially love having an excuse to buy cute scarfs and coats, and then but cute summer dresses with matching sandals!
