Music for Monday: If the World Was Ending

Hi friends! Long time no post! I'm sitting down to write a couple of posts because my phone is getting packed with pictures! I still have a collection of pictures from this summer that I need to post about and I have like 7 recipes to share - crazy! I'm sharing a little bit this week and I will continue to post updates whenever I can!

There is this featured playlist on Spotify called 'Release Radar' and I love checking every week or so. It's cool to see who has come out with new music. The playlist is constantly evolving as new music comes out. I discovered through this song through that Release Radar playlist and I loved it from the moment I heard it. It's a little heart wrenching but the story telling is so captivating. It's such a good listen and I have not been able to stop listening to it for the past 2 weeks!

Music for Monday: Ingrid Michaelson

I just did a quick search through my blog only to discover that I have never posted an Ingrid Michaelson song! What!? I adore Ingrid Michaelson. In fact, as I was writing this post I shuffled all of Ingrid Michaelson's songs on Spotify and discovered that I love far too many to share them all. I will do my best to share some highlights today, but I recommend you just shuffle them all.

Music for Monday: Church

My family has been doing a lot of sorting and packing over the past couple of weeks. We are getting ready to move into the newer part of our house so work can be done on the older part of the house. Instead of calling this a 'move' I've been calling it a 'move over' because we really are just moving over. Even though we aren't moving far, we still have to empty out the original part of the house so we've been doing a lot of packing. We like to have good music on all of the time, but especially when we're packing. My Mom and the Bean introduced me to this song a couple of weeks ago and I love it!

Music for Monday: Get Here

Hello Monday! Today, I'm sharing a song that is almost 30 years old - what? I very rarely reach that far back into the archives when I'm sharing music on Mondays. Heck, I wasn't even alive when this song was released but I have been loving it recently. My Mom re-discovered this song a couple of weeks ago and played it for me as we were prepping dinner one evening. As soon as I heard the piano opening, I said "Wait, I know this song!" It felt so familiar but I just didn't know how. My Mom said it must feel familiar because she used to listen to it on repeat when I was young.

Isn't that strange? I hadn't heard this song in years, yet something about it still felt so familiar to me. Some part of this song was engraved in me. Well, now it's my turn to listen to this song on repeat. I cannot get enough. The other day, I was substitute teaching in a kindergarten class and as soon as the kids went out for recess, I put this song on. I just had to hear it. Kind of like a food craving but with music. Does that ever happen to you?

Music for Monday: More Dermot Kennedy!

I know I posted a Dermot Kennedy song just last week, but I couldn't wait to share more. I have pretty much only been listening to Dermot Kennedy this week. I just checked our Spotify stats and so far, Dermot Kennedy is our most played artist in 2019. I wouldn't be surprised if our stats stay that way until we ring in the new year - I listen to that much Dermot Kennedy. Last week, I talked about his song 'Lost' and I still love that one but I thought I would share a couple more that I have since discovered.

Music for Monday: A Safe Place to Land

Happy Easter Monday, sweet readers! I have been saving this post for a couple of weeks as an attempt to harness my love for Sara Bareilles' music. I have blogged about Sara Bareilles 10 times. Yes, on 10 separate occasions I have shared a Sara Bareilles song (or two!) and I'm talking about another one today!

I think I've mentioned before that one of my favorite qualities about music is its ability to soothe. I love listening to a song and feeling like you're being rocked. Some songs just give me all the happy feels and this is one of those songs. Grab a blanket and a warm mug of tea because this song will have you feeling all cozy!

Music for Monday: Who Do You Love?

Happy Monday, friends! This week is much lighter so I finally have time to get back in the kitchen. I'm trying a couple new recipes this week and I am so looking forward to sharing them! I have a fun pasta recipe to try and a chicken burger recipe which I am pretty darn excited about. Chicken burgers used to be a staple in our house but I haven't had one in forever! Stay tuned for some fun recipes to add to your meal plan rotation!

Music for Monday: Mi Persona Favorita

This week has me feeling all kinds of sad. It is my last week with my fifth graders and I am so not ready to say goodbye. This teaching internship has taught me things that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. There is something about this group of kids; they've totally captured my heart and I'm dreading saying goodbye. My last day is on Thursday and you better believe I'm going to be a hot mess that day. I'm already anticipating how hard this goodbye will be but I'm trying to remind myself that it's a 'see you soon' and not a permanent 'goodbye.'

In the spirit of trying to keep the impending goodbye on Thursday out of my mind, I'm talking music today!

Music for Monday: You Gotta Be

This is a song that I posted back in September 2016, but I just have to share it again today. I shuffled an old playlist of mine last week when I got home from teaching and this song came on. I have always loved this song but I was especially moved by it last week. Some of the messages in this song are especially pertinent in this season of my life and they are exactly what I have been needing to hear.

This teaching internship is one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life. It has challenged me in ways I never expected to be challenged. It has humbled me and helped me to look at our world with more tenderness and love. These kids have taught me more than I could ever teach them.

My school is considered a low income school. The kids in this school deal with more than I could imagine dealing with. And, because of the parts of life that these kids have been exposed to, they are a little tougher than I was as a 10 year old. Heck, they're tougher than me as a 22 year old. And, I spent my first couple of weeks with them thinking they were going to eat me alive. Still, some days I wonder how they haven't eaten me alive. But, the chorus of this song gave me my answer.

Music for Monday: Talk

I'm baaack! Last week kicked my hiney - for real. Last week left me exhausted, hence my absence from blog land. I know teachers talk about this all the time, but full moon weeks are hard in the classroom. I promise, if you ask any teacher you know they will tell you that something is off in their classroom right before a full moon. There was a full moon last Wednesday and it threw my kiddos off. My classroom was crazy town last weekend and I am so glad to be leaving that full moon behind us.

On top of the crazy brought about by the full moon, I also had a 13 hour work day on Thursday. I got to hang with my fifth graders all day, then I stuck around to meet with all of their parents until 9pm. I totally understand how important this is but it makes for a super long day! So, last week left me tired, but I am hoping to post more this week! I have a couple posts prepped that I just need to sit down and write! I'm hoping to get it all together this week! We'll see...

Sometimes, I'm stumped on what song to post. So, I ask the Bean and she always has a recommendation for me. Always. She is quite the music aficionado. And, this is the song she asked me to share with all of you today!

Music for Monday: OTW

I am so happy to be back in blog land! Spring Break away was just what I needed - a little beach time and sunshine always makes me a happy girl. This was the vacation of me falling asleep everywhere - ha! For real! I never, ever fall asleep during the day. I'm the worst napper, I have never been one to sleep in cars or on planes and I have certainly never fallen asleep on the beach before. Well, I broke all of these habits on this trip. Apparently those 2 weeks of teaching really did me in because I just could not hang on this trip!

I am home now with much more energy (ie. i'm not falling asleep everywhere 😉) and I can't to share one of my more recent songs with you! The Bean introduced me to this song a couple of weeks ago and I have loved it ever since. Sometimes when I'm baking, I just put this song on repeat - it's that good.

Music for Monday: Love is the Answer

I heard this song last Friday when I got home from a hectic day of teaching and it made my week. I know I talked about this in my Friday Faves post but, teaching is hard. It is so challenging to get through to all the little minds in one classroom, but it is so rewarding. The beginning of last week was hard, but near the end of the week, I finally felt like I was winning the kids over. I finally had the class on my side, and that makes a huge difference when teaching.

When I got home and heard this song, I understood how I had won them over - I fell in love with them. I was sitting in the classroom on Monday and Tuesday racking my brain about how to get through to these kids. But, the answer was simple - I had to give it time, get to know them and absolutely fall in love with them. I was apprehensive about teaching grade 5, but these kids are smart, they're funny, they're creative, and they are so capable. I know these next 6 weeks will challenge me in many ways but I will continue to tell myself - love is the answer and it always will be.

Music for Monday: Carole King

Yesterday, I got to see Beautiful - the Carole King musical. And, just as most musicals are, it was pure magic. I have a special place in my heart for musical theater and this show did not disappoint at all. After learning so much about Carole King in my music class last year, I was so excited to see her story on stage. The show was the most perfect balance of informative and moving. Today, I'm sharing some of my favorite Carole King songs that were featured in the show yesterday!

Music for Monday: Ariana Grande

I don't always love Mondays - I know it's cliché to say but I really just love weekends, and Monday means the weekend is over. That being said, I am SO beyond excited for today! I can hardly wait to share my favorite songs from Ariana Grande's new album and this is my last week of school! This week, I have the very last classes of my Bachelor's degree! If you're looking for me this week, you can find me happy dancing to Ariana's new album.

Ok! Let's talk about the thank u, next album (because it's all I've been talking about since Friday)! I know I've shared a lot of Ariana Grande songs on my blog. I just did a search through my posts and was surprised by how many of my posts have been about her music. What can I say? I love a good Ariana Grande song! Today, I'm sharing my 3 favorites from her most recent album.

Music for Monday: Justin Timberlake!

Before getting into the music for today, I have to make quick mention of two posts that have blown up over the last couple of weeks. In case you missed these posts, you might want to give them a try! I sure love both of these recipes and I am SO happy that you guys are loving them as much as I do!

Music for Monday: Sara Bareilles

I just did a quick search through my blog to find that I have posted about Sara Bareilles on my blog 7 times! I suppose you could say I'm a fan. I love, love, love everything Sara Bareilles does. I used to watch American Idol when I was younger and Randy Jackson would compliment some singers by saying they're so good, they could sing the phone book. That's how I feel about Sara Bareilles. I would totally listen to her singing the phone book.

As I was pondering through songs to post for today, my Mom played me 2 Sara Bareilles songs and it was game over. I just knew I had to post these songs today!

Music for Monday: 2 songs on repeat

This week marks halfway through my semester and I can hardly believe it! I'm on a condensed class schedule this semester because it's split with students teaching. So, I have 6 weeks of classes and 7 weeks of students teaching. 6 weeks of classes fly right by and they are a little more stressful then your average semester. It's technically the same amount of work as a normal semester, just in less time. That means I'm sitting in front of my computer a little more than usual to get work done. But, it also means that I get to listen to a lot of music. Because when I'm sitting at my computer, I always have music playing!

Today, I'm sharing 2 songs that I cannot get enough of lately. Neither of these songs are new, but one is a little newer than the other. The Bean thinks it's pretty funny when I listen to 'old' music, but 'old' music can be fun too, right?

Music for Monday: Better

Happy Monday! I'm finally starting to get back into the swing of things around here. It kind of felt like I hit the ground running when I got home from California so it took me a minute to catch up, but I'm back into the routine of every day life. This weekend was perfect to get on top of school work, catch up on work stuff and squeeze in a little bit of kitchen time! I know I'm back into my routine when I have a little time in the kitchen. This week, I'm planning to share a little mix of everything - a recipe, a craft and another part of my California trip. But as usual, I'm kicking off the week with music!

Music for Monday: California Dreamin'

Hello blog world! I can't believe how quickly the holidays flew by! I did my very best to soak every moment in, but it really did fly right by. I will sit down to share some of our holiday fun and our trip to California at some point, but for today I'm talking music. Gosh, it was hard to decide on a song to share for today. After 2 weeks off, I was thinking this first song has to be good. But I am taking that pressure off myself and just sharing a song that I have been loving.

The music on the radio in California is fun! It was so cool to see how the west coast does radio differently than in Montreal. I love Montreal's radio stations but California does hip hop better :) I loved listening to the hip hop in California! This song isn't hip hop but I loved hearing it on the radio while we were away!

Music for Monday: Bobby Bazini

Happy Monday! I'm excited to be coming to you with another Christmas song today! I'm talking Bobby Bazini today! Bobby Bazini has a couple 'everyday songs' that I love but this song is my all time favorite of his.
