Halloween Sugar Cookies!

I hope you all had a fun Halloween yesterday! I realize that I am sharing a Halloween recipe the day after Halloween, but I figured these sugar cookies are still delicious and you can cut them into any shapes you'd like. And it's still pumpkin season right!? So you can whip up a bunch of pumpkin shaped sugar cookies! I use the sugar cookie recipe from Mrs. Field's Cookie Book - you can find the recipe on page 57!

Start by creaming together 3/4 cup of granulated sugar and 3/4 cup of softened butter. Then, mix in 1 egg and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
Mix in 1/4 teaspoon of salt.
Then, mix in 2 cups of all-purpose flour - the dough should form a ball.
I typically cut my dough in half, so I only work with half of the dough at a time. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface until it is about 1/4 inch thick.
Use cookie cutters to cut your dough into different shapes - I used a pumpkin, a bat, a ghost and a cat. The picture above is all of the cookies this recipe makes! I usually end up with between 24-30 cookies with this recipe, so you may need to double the recipe to cater to your needs! :) Place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Then, decorate!! I used orange and black sprinkles and some colored mini M&M's but you can use whatever kind of decor you like - In the past, I have used chocolate chips, skor pieces...
Bake the cookies for 13-15 minutes at 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Once the cookies are baked, use a spatula to transfer to a wire cooling rack to allow them to cool.
