Successful making apple turnovers was kind of dream like for me, because they are something I never thought I would be able to make! Well, not only did I make them, but they were much easier than I expected and they turned out great! I used a blog called Live Well, Bake Often to guide me through making these - you can find the original recipe HERE.
First you'll need puff pastry - you can buy puff pastry from the grocery store or you can use my favorite recipe. If you choose to make the puff pastry that I shared last week, cut it in half once it's out of the fridge.
Roll out the puff pastry dough so that you have two 10x10 inch squares.

Palmiers
Yesterday, I shared a great recipe for Puff Pastry. If you would like to use that puff pastry for these Palmiers, you can find the recipe HERE. However, you could buy puff pastry from the grocery store, that would make these recipe even easier!! I have always shied away from making palmiers because I was a little intimidated by trying to make a french dessert but these turned out great! And they were so much easier than I was expecting! I read a couple of Pinterest recipes but I ended up winging it after making my own puff pastry. Here is what i did...

Puff Pastry
I found this recipe for Puff Pastry on Pinterest and it led me to a blog called Dessert for Two. I made the recipe into Palmiers on Tuesday night and they were so good! I'm sharing the recipe for the puff pastry today, and I'll talk about how I made them into Palmiers tomorrow! You can find the original recipe HERE.

Pecan Butter Tarts
I had butter tarts at a friend's house over the holidays and I have been wanting to make them ever since! I made these last Wednesday and I could not believe how easy they were! I found the recipe in an old Canadian Living magazine - you can find the recipe online HERE. I made a few changes, but I'll explain that more in the step by step with pictures below!
Start by making the pastry shell by mixing 1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour and 1/4 teaspoon of salt in a medium mixing bowl.
Add in 1/4 cup of butter, cubed and 1/4 cup of shortening, cubed (you can see in the picture that I did not cube my shortening - I really don't like touching shortening and I figured I would get cut up in the next step...). Use two knives to cut the butter and shortening into the flour mixture until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
